Potala Palace
The Potala Palace above Lhasa City acts as the regional landmark, which attracts the international visitors. This massive 13-soreyed building used to be the highest building prior to the early period of last century. It used to be the former winter abode for the Dalai Lamas. It looks incredibly superb from a distance and could be viewed from various places around the town. As the nation’s supreme relic, the place dates back to 7th century A.D.

At the foot of the Wuze Hill in Sera to the north of Lhasa, the Sera Monastery is one of the three great monasteries in Lhasa and one of the six great monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Buddhism in Tibet. It was built by one of the disciples of Zonggaba in 1419.

Jokhang, the most holy temple in Tibet, reefers to “Buddha’s House” in Tibetan language because it is believed that the main statue enshrined is made by Buddha Sakyamuni himself in his lifetime. Jokhang Temple is the convergence of Tibet’s Spiritual and secular life. Here you can meet all the tribes from Tibetan Plateau. The surrounding marked is called Barkhor, one of the most important religious path, which also brings together people for shopping.

On the slpe of the Wuze Hill in Genbei five kilometers northwest of Lhasa, the Drepung Monastery was built in 1416 and is the largest of the monasteries of the Gelug sect. The fifth Dalai Lama lived here before he moved to the Potala Palace. It houses plenty of historical and cultural relics and Buddhist classics.

Borbu Lingka means a lovely garden in Tibetan. Located in the western suburbs of Lhasa, it has been a place for the Dalai Lamas to stay to escape the summer heat. It was built in the 740s. It was once a place of bathing and recuperation of the Seventh Dalai Lama. The Qing minister stationed in Tibet built the first palace here. Since then, the 8th, 18, and 14th Dalai Lamas built there own palaces here too. Continuous expansions in the past 200 odd years have turned it a large scale and Tibet-style palace complex and garden

On the northern bank of the Yarlung Zambo River in Chanang Country, Shannan Prefecture, the monastery was built in 779 under supervision of Master Padmasambhava and Tibetan king Trisong Detsen. It is the first monastery for the monks in Tibet. The magnificient and unique Central Hall is three story high. The monastery has bronze bells, carved marble lions and tablets marking the development of Buiddhism.

In Tibet, people believe that a monkey converted human beings and a widely known legend says that the event took place just in Tsedang. The magnificent Tashilhumpo Monastery with numerable splendid golden roofs is the sear for Pachen Lama, the 2nd highest Lama in Tibet. Dating back to 15th century, it is the most active monastic institution in present day in Tibet and people are always impressed by its golden and silver tomb stupas for the former Pachen Lamas.

The ancient atmospheric town allures the visitors from all over the world because its long-standing history, outstanding Buddhist region and breath taking view. Gyantse fortress (dzong) destroyed by the British army in 1904 but he ruins still remain there proudly. The Pacho Monastery is one of the best preserved which dates back to 15th century. It contains a lot of antiques. Kumnbum Stupa is the largest in Tibet; it was also built in 15th century by the Nepalese Newari craftsmen and is entitled as “The Museum of 100,000 statues”

The highest mountain peak in the world with height of 8848.13m is the destination for many valiant travelers. The Tibetan name “Qomolungma” refers to the 3rd Goddess in Tibetan.
